Tuscan ND Dolfi 7.25×7.25″ Square Box with Gold Orbs

The color of this box is an ever-elegant coral. It is the perfect place to keep treasures. The spheres are like polka dots sprinkled about the outside of the box. The gold is striking against the coral color. It is 24 karat gold, and it is applied by the method that is known as terza cottura, which roughly translates to ?he third cooking.?After the piece is cooked twice, as all Italian pottery is, the artisan applies a solution that is 18% 24 karat gold and 82% solvents. The terza cottura is done at a low temperature in the kiln so that the solvents can evaporate, leaving behind a thin coat of pure 24 karat gold. This box was handcrafted by ND Dolfi of Montelupo Fiorentino, Tuscany. You will see in one of the images that there is a little hole in each of the larger spheres; they needed to be there to protect the orbs in the kiln. This box is 7.25X7.25″ and 3″ high.
